So, what do you do if that is the case? How do you change WiFi password ATT then? Well, the following tips should be helpful to you;

There are not that many differences to how WiFi passwords are changed

If you go through this blog, you will notice that we probably have over a hundred articles on changing the WiFi password on one network or the other. We have written on how to change WiFi password, Singtel in Singapore. We have also written on how to change WiFi password for Tedata in Egypt. In another article, we talk about how to change WiFi password Etisalat in the UAE.

One thing that you will notice from all these articles is that the steps for changing WiFi passwords are almost similar. There are some basic things that you need. With that information, you should be able to get into the admin page for your router or Gateway.

And here is another thing; a Gateway is just a better named router or modem. In the UK and France them call them WiFi hubs. Those are just names for the same thing. Well, technically, a router is different from a modem. However, most routers today are also modems. So, again, it’s one and the same thing.

Basic requirements for changing WiFi passwords

So, what are the basic needs for changing your WiFi password? Remember we are not only talking about ATT here. Indeed, if you know how to change the WiFi password on one router, you won’t have trouble doing it on others. Anyway, the following is what you need to do a WiFi password change;

  • You need to have the default I.P
  • You also need to have the default username for your router/modem/Gateway
  • Lastly, you need to have the default password.

Where do I get this information?

With that information, you won’t have difficulty getting into your Gateway’s admin section. That’s where you can change your ATT WiFi password. But where do you get the above information? Do you need to spend minutes hunting it down on Google?

Well, as it turns out, that is actually not necessary. All that information that you need to change the WiFi password on your ATT network can be found right on your fingertips. If you look on the side of your Gateway, you will see the information on a sticker.

Sometimes, it can be found behind or underneath the device. Wherever the sticker is located, it will have the default I.P (sometimes in the form of a web address), the default username and the default password for your router.

You can get the default I.P using Command Prompt

You will find the required information on the side of your AT&T Gateway, as already noted. So this particular tip is for those that just wish to be fancy. Fact is, you can find the WiFi password on any router or modem using the ipconfig command on Windows. To do so, take the following steps;

  • Open Command Prompt on your computer. You can do so by searching for cmd.
  • In Command Prompt, type in ipconfig and press enter.
  • Scroll down to Default Gateway. The default I.P for your modem is the string of figures in front of that.
  • Type this into your browser’s login page and press enter.

Reset your Gateway if your forgotten your admin password

It is advisable to change the admin password for your ATT modem. Some people do this because they wish to have passwords that are easy to remember. So, what do you do? Well, the good news is that you can still change the WiFi password on your ATT router even if you have forgotten the admin password for your Gateway. To do so, you only need to reset your ATT WiFi Gateway. This can be done by pressing on the reset button on the back of the device. Press on the button for at least 15 seconds.

Once your modem has been reset, you will now be able to log into your Gateway’s admin section using the default username and password that are printed on the side of your device.

Always use a strong WiFi password

Why do you need to change the WiFi password on your ATT router? In most instances, people learn how to change WiFi password ATT because they wish to protect themselves as they browse across the internet. It’s a matter of security. However, some people achieve the opposite effect by choosing to have simple WiFi passwords that are easy to break. If you do this, you will be setting yourself up for the terror of having your identity stolen by people in Bangladesh or Bhutan. What you need is to have a strong password, and the following tips should be helpful to you;

  • Use a password that has no less than 10 characters. Shorter passwords are generally easier to break. Each extra character that you use adds to the security of your network.
  • Have special characters in your password. Special characters include; *&^%$# and @!. These make it all the more difficult for someone to guess your ATT WiFi password.
  • Mix uppEr and lOweR in your cases. ATT WiFi passwords are case sensitive. By mixing cases, you make it even more difficult for anyone to guess what your password is.
  • Never share your passwords via email or massagers. Or if you’ve done it already, create an anonymous email account or send a password through an encrypted email source.

Consider hiding your ATT WiFi network

To enhance security for your AT&T WiFi, consider hiding your network. If people do not know that you have internet in your home or office, they will not be motivated to try and hack in. So, if you hide your network, someone will have to guess what the SSID is to get in. It’s another layer of protection.

Why change WiFi password ATT?

We often get asked; why should I learn how to change my ATT WiFi password? Why go through the trouble. Aren’t the default WiFi passwords good enough in most instances? Well, there are a couple of reasons why you may wish to ATT change WiFi password;

ATT Change WiFi Password to simplify your password

That is the first reason why people set out to learn how to change WiFi password AT&T. The password that comes default with your Gateway consists of a strange jumble of letters and special characters. Frankly, nobody is going to be able to remember that.

So, the first time that they get connected, most people decide to change that to something that can be remembered. Just remember that your WiFi password is what stands between you and security while browsing across the internet. If you simplify your password too much, you may live to regret your decision.

Change ATT WiFi password to protect yourself from your good neighbors

Around the world, neighbors are a major menace when it comes to WiFi networks. Seemingly everybody is looking for free internet so they can stream funny videos from YouTube. Nobody can resist watching the latest Road Rage America video, right? Particularly if they are not paying for data.

How about streaming Netflix shows without having to pay for the data? Anyway, this is no exaggeration. “How to hack WiFi,” is actually a trending keyword on Google. So, you need to protect yourself by making sure that you have a strong WiFi password on your ATT network.

The only issue here is that neighbors do not usually use hacking to get your password. After all, they are not hackers. They are ordinary folks who, on top of that, are good neighbors. So, to steal from you, they use guile and sheer detective work that would put James Bond to shame.

Maybe they guess that you are one of those people who use their children’s names and birthdays as WiFi passwords. If you do that, anybody that knows you really well will not have trouble getting into your network.

Or maybe they send their children to become friends with your own children. And your children will be made to cough up the password. At least that’s what Piper in Henry Danger tried to do once. And we all know that films tell the truth, right?

Anyway, at the end of the day, your neighbors will have ferreted your WiFi password from you or your children. And from there, they will start spreading the love to their own friends and WiFi. Who can fault their generosity? The WiFi network is not theirs after all.

You will only know that something is amiss when you WiFi network starts being rather slow. That’s because if you get too many devices connected on a network at once, speeds fall drastically. It’s also possible that you will be exhausting your plan way faster than expected. Should any of these things happen to you, you will know that it’s time to learn how to change ATT WiFi password.

Change ATT WiFi password to protect from hackers

It’s also advised to periodically change your ATT WiFi password to protect yourself and your family from hackers. Now, hackers are a really serious threat. They hardly care about your data. What they want to get are you banking details. If you are not careful, they will steal your very life.

The troubling thing is that routers and modems tend to be rather weak entry points into a network. We have previously written on why you should have a VPN for your router. That way, you will be making it impossible for hackers to hijack your network.
