If you have just purchased a Kindle, you will notice that the “Home,” screen comes with a “Recommended for you,” section. Now, there is nothing wrong with getting recommendations about books that fall in line with your interests. However, on a Kindle Paperwhite, the section tends to eat up space that could otherwise be used to display books that are in your library. So, how to do you turn off recommended books on a Kindle Paperwhite? Before getting started, check out this great cover for the Kindle Paperwhite.
The Kindle Paperwhite has a black and white screen, which, as I have noticed, pretty much takes away the visual aspect of choosing books. What I mean is that I usually choose my books based on their covers. Okay, I know some will say something about not judging a book by its cover, but there you have it!
Anyway, when I want to buy books, I hardly ever use the Kindle Paperwhite. Instead, I go to my computer, where I make the purchase. The book is then automatically synced to the Kindle. So, there is really no reason for me to see the “Recommended for you,” section on my kindle.
How to turn off “Recommended for you” on a Kindle
To turn off Kindle Recommendations, all that you need to do is the following;
- Go to your Kindle’s home page.
- Click on the three dots to the top right of your screen (just below the clock)
- Click on “Settings.”
- Choose “Device Options.”
- Click on “Advanced Options.”
- Choose “Home & Library.”
- Click on the button to turn off “Home Screen View.”
What does removing suggestions do on a Kindle?
What happens when you remove suggestions on a Kindle is that you will have that much more space on the Home screen on which to have the books that are in your library displayed. If, like us, you chose the Kindle that comes with advertisements, you will still get these on a band at the bottom of your screen. If you need to update your Kindle Paperwhite, feel free to refer to this article for information on how to do it.
Thanks. Do they really think that cluttering up the screen with ads actually leads to increased sales of what is advertised? When an advert intrudes on what I am doing, I make a mental note to avoid it ie the effect is negative. Am I so unusual?
Surprising isn’t it. But you do get used to it and I suppose some people do buy.
The suggested way of removing recommendations did not work.
Can anyone help -I may have to send the device back it is so annoying
Perhaps you have a different model. We tried out these tips and they work on our model from a couple of years back. Can you give us the model that you have so we can research? Sending the device back seems rather dramatic. You don’t actually see the recommendations or ads while reading a book, so the interruption is minimal. It’s why we don’t recommend that anyone pay to remove the ads from their device. There is no need. And the ads ands recommendations can actually point you in other directions as far as your reading is concerned.
The instructions don’t work. Kindle paper white 10 th gen.
We will check it out. Yeah other people are saying the instructions don’t work ont he 10 generation
I have an issue trying to remove reccommended books from kindle. I’ve tried suggestions but
my kindle paper white 10th gen does not have personalise kindle in settings.
Just got a Paperwhite Signature Edition. The Home Screen View option isn’t even there! Any thoughts?
Can’t turn kindle reader off application error?
Hard press on the power button. Keep pressing till it turns off.
It’s awesome to pay a visit this web site and reading the views of all mates
concerning this post, while I am also eager of getting experience.
What determines the language of the suggested readings? Is it the Amazon account? When we use my ‘American’ Amazon account, the suggestions are in English. When we use her ‘Italian’ Amazon account, her suggestions are in Italian.
We would like the ability to log in with my American Amazon account, but see Italian suggestions.
Hey. Check out this article on how to change the language on a Kindle. That should be helpful.
The Android Kindle app does not let you remove recomendations , there are no options in settings , any way around this apart from using another reader app ? It’s beyond bloody annoying !
Hopefully somebody will have an answer to this one. We checked and there does not appear to be a way, as you say. We will keep exploring.
Sorry, doesn’t work on my “updated” kindle.
I paid extra to get rid of the adverts, and on the update, there are unwanted “recommendations” – or do I meam ADVERTS?
I too paid extra not to have ads on my gen10th gen kindle l want to see my library not recommendations – l am not happy l can’t change this – unless you know different.
I guess Amazon keeps changing it so we can no longer do this. So frustrating. I rarely use my kindle because it’s hard to tell which titles I have. I’d love to get the suggestions removed.
Yeah. They recently updated their software. We will have to change our articles. But it’s not that difficult to navigate around in there.
Me too! I paid extra to remove ads for my wife’s Kindle (11th Generation) and these recommendations are annoying her and taking up space with no way of removing them. I know you issued a firmware update previously to fix this when a lot of people complained but you’ve obviously removed the functionality in subsequent updates. This is sharp practice and I am VERY ANGRY! Get it fixed!
Sorry, last comment was meant for Amazon Admin, some of whom appear to read these comments.
I have the Kindle Paperwhite (11th Generation) works for me so thankyou
