The Explora is the current flagship for DSTV. If you have recently purchased one, you may be wondering whether or not you will be required to pay something extra for using the decoder on a monthly basis. The latest version of the Explora is the DSTV Explora 3 which, all things considered, is not that different from the DSTV Explora 2. What you need to know is that you can subscribe to any bouquet while using the DSTV Explora. So, you can have DSTV Access on the Explorer. However, doing this makes the Explora no different than all the other DSTV decoders. That’s because most of the Explora’s wonderful features will be locked.
Which bouquet do I need to unlock the Explora’s full features?
If you wish to unlock the DSTV Explora’s full features, then you are going to need to start your subscription at the DSTV Compact bouquet. So, if you want to get the full Explora experience, you need DSTV Compact, DSTV Compact Plus or DSTV Premium.
How do I activate PVR on a DSTV Explora?
Having said that, you should understand that you do not get the full Explora experience by simply paying for one of the bouquets that are mentioned above. Instead, in order to unlock the DSTV Explora PVR functionality, you need to pay an extra R95 per month on top of your subscription.

DSTV allows people to trade in their active HD PVR 4 decoders for the Explora. Should you decide to do this, you will only need to pay R600 instead of R999 for the Explora decoder. All the other decoders are not tradeable for the Explora.
