How to Change your DSTV Package
Whether you are in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Nigeria or any other African country, chances are high that if you have Digital Satellite Television in your home, it is DSTV. Though there have, over the past few years, been a countless number of pretenders, none have made a dent as far as overtaking DSTV is concerned. Okay, so Kwese TV probably, once upon a time, made the folks at Multichoice break into a sweat, but it too has long since fallen by the wayside.
The fact of the matter is that DSTV just has been around for too long a time to be challenged. That’ and many other reasons, account for why DSTV retains a near monopoly as far as the provision of digital satellite TV services in Africa is concerned.

Frequently Asked Questions about Changing a DSTV package
The following are some of the questions that are often asked by people who wish to change their DSTV packages;
- What happens if I have just made payment on another bouquet?
Should you change you DSTV bouquet online, the DSTV platform will simply ignore the amount that you have already paid on a lower priced bouquet.
I suppose that it’s possible for you to get in touch with DSTV to ask them to calculate your balance. You would then pay the amount that’s needed to make the move to a new package.
In our example, we were on the DSTV Access bouquet which costs $11. When we made the shift to DSTV compact, we were required to pay the total $25, never mind the fact that we had just paid $11.
- Where does the money that’s already in my account go?
The good news is that any money that remains in your account is then carried over as a balance. This means that you won’t need to pay as much the next time that you make your subscription. Your balance is going to depend on the number of days that you have already viewed the current package.
- Is the change to a new DSTV package automatic?
Yes, once you have made your payment online, the change to a new DSTV package should be automatic. That’s the beauty of making online DSTV payments. Once your payment has gotten through, you will automatically be upgraded to the new package.
However, should this not happen, it’s easy enough to get in touch with DSTV. I find that trying to get in touch with them over the phone is like trying to squeeze water out of rock. Those computers that greet you are really annoying.
I have much more joy getting in touch with the folks at DSTV via their Facebook page. The good thing in this regard is that, on most days, it only takes a few minutes for DSTV personnel to get in touch with you and resolve your issue.
- Can I change to a lower prized bouquet?
Yes, you can make the change to a lower prized DSTV bouquet. However, in order to do this, your current bouquet needs to have completely run out. Otherwise, you won’t see the option for a lower prized bouquet in your Dashboard.
In order to pay for the package to which you wish to go, simply pay the required amount, eg $11 and then get in touch with DSTV and tell them to downgrade you.
That’s it. Hope this information will help you change your DSTV package. The information should be pertinent whether you are in Mozambique, Botswana, South Africa or Zimbabwe. Whichever country in which you live, changing you DSTV package is something that you should be able to do on your own without having to reach out to DSTV.
Payment Options for Zimbabweans
DSTV Payment Options for Zimbabweans are something that we talk about in this article. Needless to say here that the current economic situation has severely cut down on the available DSTV payment options for Zimbabweans. However, the good news is that it’s still possible for you to make your payment and to watch your favorite shows on DSTV.
