Airtime Transfer on Airtel in Nigeria

The ability to transfer airtime on Airtel is offered under what is referred to as the Me2U service.
How to transfer airtime on Airtel
To transfer airtime on Airtel in Nigeria, you need to take the following steps;
- On your phone, dial *142#
- Next, you need to choose the Transfer Airtime option
- Now, you need to enter the number of the person to whom you wish to send airtime.
- Finally, you need to confirm that you wish to go ahead with the transaction.
Transferring Airtel credit via SMS
You also have the option to send airtime to friends and family on the Airtel network using SMS. To do so, you need to do the following;
- Open Messages on your phone.
- Type in the following message; 2u (recipient’s number) (Amount) (PIN).
- Replace the sections in brackets with the relevant information; eg 2u 08073655323 1000 4543
Airtel airtime transfer code
The Airtel airtime transfer code is *142#. Dial that and choose the option to transfer airtime. From there, follow all the steps that are needed to complete your transaction. Knowing the Airtel code to transfer airtime allows you to quickly and easily send credit from one Airtel number to another.
Where do I get the PIN
You may have noticed that you are required to type in a PIN in the above method of doing an Airtel credit transfer. By default, all Airtel users have the default PIN is 1234 or if that does not work, try 0000.
You should change the default Airtel Airtime transfer PIN
This is something that you need to do right from the beginning. We gave the default Airtel transfer PIN above for the Me2U service. Everyone knows this PIN. So, if you don’t change it, somebody that gets hold of your phone can easily send themselves airtime. To change the Airtel Me2U code, you need to do the following;
- Open Messages on your phone.
- Write the following message; PIN default PIN new PIN. (eg PIN 1234 7633).
- Send the message to 432.
- You will now receive a message telling you that your new PIN has been set at.
The Me2U Service is great
We have already noted that the facility to do airtel to airtel airtime transfer is part of a service that Airtel refers to as the Me2U service. Under this service, you can only transfer airtime of no more than N5000. This is really a convenient service that every airtel user should be aware of.
