Do you wish to learn how to transfer data from Vodacom to Telkom in South Africa? Vodacom is the biggest mobile network in the country, while Telkom has been growing a lot over the past few years. If you are a Vodacom customer, you may be looking to send data to friends, family and colleagues on Telkom. But is it possible? Can you transfer data from Vodacom to Telkom? Those are the questions that we are going to answer in this article.
Can you Transfer Data from Vodacom to Telkom
Unfortunately, it’s not currently possible to transfer data from Vodacom to Telkom. In South Africa, it’s not possible to transfer data from one network to the other. So, you are going to have to look for other solutions if you wish to send data to other people. We look at some of these solutions in the last bit of this article.
Why is it not possible?
There are several reasons why you cannot transfer data from Vodacom to Telkom. For one thing, there is no regulatory mandate forcing networks to enable this feature. As such, data can only be transferred to others on the same network.
Also, it would probably be difficult to institute any such policy, considering that different networks have different rates for data. What you buy on Vodacom for R10 is different from what you buy on Telkom. So, the situation is a bit complicated.
What are the solutions?
We have already noted that there are several possible solutions open to those looking to learn how to transfer data from Vodacom to Telkom. But what are these solutions?
Well, for one thing, you can simply buy Telkom airtime. If you go outside your home or office, you will find people selling airtime scratch cards by the street corner. Buy a scratch card and send the number to your intended recipient. They can then top up their airtime before converting the Telkom airtime to data.
Another solution would be to send them money in one way or the other. There are many money transfer solutions in South Africa. Mobile money is yet to really catch up with the rest of the continent, but it’s another solution. Once you have send them airtime, they will then be free to buy their own airtime.
A more drastic solution would be to get everyone close to you on the same network. This is a long term solution. You probably have people who are always asking you to send them airtime and data. You may not like it, but we are Africans, and we help those close to us, whether we like it or not.
So, the solution here would be to get them to port from Telkom to Vodacom. Porting is a wonderful thing because it allows you to keep your cellphone number.
It means you wont’ have to run around telling people that you have a new number. One advantage of being on the same network is that you enjoy a lot of savings on calls. So, this is something that you may wish to explore.
