Minimum Amount for Buying ZESA through ECOCASH Raised to $10

ZESA now available through ECOCASH

A few weeks ago, we wrote an article in which we highlighted the fact that people were spending hours queuing to buy electricity tokens at the ZESA offices following the breaking down of the ECOCASH and ZESA systems. The good news is that you can now buy ZESA through ECOCASH.

Minimum raised to $10

The bad news is that, for some reason, ZESA has increased the minimum amount that can be purchased through ECOCASH to $10. This tends to lend credence to allegations that the whole breakdown had been due to the fact that ZESA was reportedly not making money by selling amounts of as little as $2 to people via ECOCASH.

ZETDC tokens NOW accessible via EcoCash

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company electricity token system on EcoCash is now working. Customers are now able to buy ZESA tokens via EcoCash.

The minimum value you can buy your ZESA token on EcoCash has been increased to $10 to improve system efficiency.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused and we will keep you informed of any further developments.

This is obviously good news to those that are looking to buy ZESA tokens via ECOCASH. Having to physically visit the company’s branches in order to buy ZESA has been trying, largely because of the queues. The availability of multiple purchasing options makes it easy for people to recharge their ZESA meters.

The bad news

However, the decision to hike the minimum amount to $10 is obviously not great. Indeed, raising the minimum amount for buying ZESA through ECOCASH is rather inflationary, as far as the entire economy is concerned. What it says is that any amount below $10 is not worth the trouble. What’s, therefore, to stop other services providers from raising their fees to a similar amount?
